Midlands theme park hosts charity walk

THE managing director of Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, is chairman of the charity’s West Midlands Walk to Cure Diabetes for the second consecutive year.

The West Midlands Walk To Cure Diabetes event will again be held at the theme park on Sunday, October 4 2009.

As chairman of the walk, Mr Bryan will spend the next few months drumming up support for the charity and encouraging the region’s public and businesses to take part in the event.

In 2008, the five-mile walk in the grounds of Drayton Manor raised over £114,000 for JDRF. Money raised helps drive forward crucial research into type 1 diabetes, which is a chronic, life-threatening condition that has a life-long impact on those diagnosed with it and their families.

People with the condition rely on multiple insulin injections finger prick blood tests every day just to stay alive. JDRF is the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 research and exists to find the cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.

Colin Bryan said: “I’m delighted to be involved with JDRF once again. Last year’s walk was a huge success and I hope that this year even more people will take part and help to raise funds for this very worthy cause.”

Joe Nunn, West Midlands regional development manager for JDRF, said: “It’s brilliant to have Drayton Manor on board with us in 2009. The efforts of Colin and everyone else who helped to put on the event in 2008 meant that not only was money raised to help research into type one diabetes, but the event was enjoyed by all those taking part.” To find out more, or to register for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, go to: www.jdrf.org.uk/walktocure
