In the upper echelons of fashion, personalisation has become the new byword for luxury.

Fendi leads the way, with their "made to order" room, which opened in London this year, allowing customers to choose fabrics, colours and finishes on their one-of-a-kind bags, while Burberry's monogrammed wool wraps have been a major hit with famous fashionistas.

A £900 cape (plus £200 to add your initials) is pretty steep, but the good news is that you can get a slice of the customisation action on the high street for far less.

From cute clutches to bespoke backpacks and jewellery, these are the pieces to put your stamp on...

PICK AND MIX

With Baia's made-to-order service, you get Fendi-like levels of freedom on your bag design. Choose a style, from mini backpacks to roomy totes, then pick the colour and fabric you want for each panel, plus the lining, strap and metalwork, all for less than £200.

FASHION FLASH

:: FITTING-ROOM FORUM

Asking your friends' opinion about an outfit is nothing new, but now smartphones are helping shoppers to source fashion advice further afield. Research by social shopping site Shopa.com reveals that one in seven under-30s post changing room selfies, or 'chelfies', on social media before deciding what to buy, with women needing on average three 'likes' and men four before the item gets snapped up.

:: CASUAL CLIMB

They've gone from gym kit to catwalk and even the office, now sports shoes continue their fashion domination, with news that nearly one-third of Brits (29%) apparently think it's OK to wear trainers to a funeral. The survey, by footwear protector Crep Protect, also found that 30% of people would wear trainers to a wedding and 29% to a job interview.

:: STYLE STEAL

Abbey Clancy looked sensational whenever she shimmied in tasselled frocks on the Strictly dance floor, so it's no surprise her latest accessories collection features a healthy dose of fringing. The brown heels and clutch bag are a snip - and they're real suede too.
