Stourbridge runner Dave Shepperd found himself defeated by nature at the Beat the Bore run.
The Stourbridge Running Club member finished 28th with a time of 58 minutes 42 seconds in the seven-kilometre run along the River Severn between Epney and Weir Green.
Competitors are aiming to beat the famous Severn Bore tidal wave but it got the better of all 104 finishers.
Sheppard said: “The Severn bore went past me doing around 12 to 15mph I would say.
“It sounded like an undergound train as the huge wave powered upstream towards Gloucester.
“We did our best but the bore beat us all.”
Colin Downey, Stour’s other representative in the run, finished 42nd in a time of 60.48.
