DOUBLE Commonwealth gold medal winner Jodie Stimpson will be an official starter at this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

The 25-year-old Oldbury triathlete, who won both individual and team triathlon golds for England at the Glasgow games, will be at the start line on Sunday, October 19 to see off the waves of runners who will take on the 13.1 mile course around the city.

She said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to be involved in such a fantastic event like the Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

“Last year I ran it with my mum and I was amazed at the turn-out and the amount of support around the course. I look forward to this year being even better.”

David Hart, communications director for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, added: “Jodie’s success in Glasgow is an inspiration to thousands, and we’re delighted she is able to join us on October 19th for what promises to be the biggest and best ever Midlands half marathon.”

Now in its fourth year, the Bupa Great Birmingham Run is the second biggest half marathon in the country. Last year, a record 20,000 runners entered.
