THE National Road Relay Championships were held in Sutton Park on Sunday, October 5 attracting teams from all over the country.

Eight Halesowen girls took part in the competition which is a three stage road relay race.

In the under 15 girls race, the top three teams placed as follows - Blackheath and Bromley, Bedford and County and City of Portsmouth Athletics Club.

Having finished fourth in the Midlands Road Relay Championships just a few weeks earlier each of the three under 15 girls in the A team improved their times to finish 14th out of the 66 teams that took part.

Abigail Saker ran the first leg fighting through the huge field of starters to finish in seventh place (14m 11 sec) with Livvy Worth running the second leg (14m 52sec) handing over to Lily Higgins in sixth, who completed the final leg in 15m 26sec.

The under 15 girls B team comprising of Sophie Falshaw (16m 14sec), Erin Crofts (18m 23sec) and Molly Kelly (16m 18sec) finished 60th.

Halesowen couldn’t raise a full under 17 girls team due to injury but were represented by two individual runners, Chloe Fitzpatrick who ran the first leg in 17min 51sec handing over to Isabel Hall who ran the second leg in 17 min 12sec. The winning team was Charnwood Athletics Club.
