A CHRIS Brown brace saw Sportsman into the semi-finals of the Birmingham County FA Sunday Vase as they dispensed with Hall Green in a fine home win.

Despite a nervous start to the game and being under attack from the off, Sportsman took the lead through Jason Bachelor on twenty minutes as he scored against the run of play. The lead lasted only five minutes before a Hall Green midfielder broke through the Sportsman defence and levelled the score at 1-1.

Sportsman’s keeper Dale Holloway played his part to keep Hall Green at bay before the break.

The second half saw Sportsman settle into their game and begin to pass the ball around with ease, with Chris Brown restoring the Sportsman’s lead on 65 minutes, scoring from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later, Brown countered the Hall Green attack, rounded the keeper and put Sportsman 3-1 ahead. Sportsman held on to their lead, but a minute before time, Hall Green managed to scramble the ball over the line to reduce the deficit, but it was not enough as they left empty handed losing 3-2 as Sportsman continue their cup ambitions.
