SAM Eggington claimed the vacant Commonwealth welterweight championship in Birmingham on Saturday.
The Stourbridge boxer stopped Ghanaian Joseph Lamptey in seven rounds at the Barclaycard Arena.
Despite a slow start, Eggington, 21, who has recently linked up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom promotions, eventually turned up the heat before blasting his way to the title.
Lamptey's team claimed the referee had stopped the contest too soon but it was Eggington that was landing the cleaner punches during a exciting trade of punches.
After the victory in front of the Sky Sports cameras, he said: "It’s unreal, I can’t put it into words to be fair, it’s unbelievable.
“I was boxing, doing odd jobs and Eddie Hearn gave me a shot against Denton Vassell and since then its sky rocketed, it’s brilliant.”
“I thought it was the right decision, I caught him with four punches, a combination in a row.”
