LYE Town boss Martin Thomas is pleased with how his pre-season preparations are progressing.

Town face their first full pre-season friendly away against Shifnal Town this Saturday, following a shorter warm-up game against Ellesmere Rangers last weekend.

Thomas said: “Things are going well. I’m pleased with how the squad is shaping up.

“It is good to get back playing again and working with the players.

“We have the basis of our squad now in place and but could still add a few more.

“I am talking to a couple of centre backs and will look into the possibility of adding another goalkeeper to the side.”

One player that could prove an exciting signing for the club is forward Matt Gardner.

The former Causeway United striker showed his goalscoring prowess for Hinkley last season.

The rest of Lye’s pre-season programme sees them face Bewdley on July 25 (3pm), Wolverhampton Casuals on July 28 (7.30pm), Roselands in Torquay on August 1 and Stourbridge on August 4 (7.30pm). All away.
