LYE Town boss Martin Thomas thinks his side’s lack of experience has told at the start of this season.

Town fell to back-to-back away defeats with 2-1 losses at Walsall Wood last Saturday and Alvechurch on Tuesday night.

Thomas said: “We are a young side with limited experience at the moment.

“I think that has shown at times already. There have been games where a bit of experience would probably have got us through.

“It is something we recognise and something we will be trying to put right by adding to the squad.

“But the recent games have also shown us that even though we don’t have a lot of older heads we do have a group of very talented players that will only get better.”

Injuries to three of Lye’s more senior players, Sam Rock, Nicky Pugh and Scott Gennard, have also left Town further short of experience.

Against Alvechurch, Lye fell behind to two first half goals before a James Spray effort in the 81st minute halved their deficit.

“I think a draw from both the Alvechurch and Walsall Wood games would have been fair, but that’s the way it goes in football sometimes,” added Thomas.

“We won’t dwell on it and will just look to build on an encouraging start. Overall, I’ve been quite pleased with how it has gone.

“We went toe-to-toe with Alvechurch would should be right up their as the season goes on.”

Thomas said he and joint boss Darren Goodall are now looking forward to their first home game of the season.

They have so far been away this term due to sharing their Stourbridge Road ground with Lye Cricket Club.

They don’t have a game this Saturday but will resume against Sporting Khalsa next Tuesday night.

“We are keen to play some games at home now,” added Thomas. “Our form there will be very important this season so it would be great if we can get off to a good start.”
