OLD Hill found themselves on the receiving end of hammering from Worcestershire's Alexei Kervezee this week.

The Dutch international despatched the Old Hill bowlers for a huge 174 not out to help opponents Bromsgrove breeze to a substancial 143 run success.

Only the slow seam of Daud Islam, who took two for 28 off his 10 over spell, managed to escape the carnage as Kervezee cut loose to reach his total off 118 balls.

Old Hill then collapsed in their reply, slumping from 53 for one to 70 for six, a slide from which they never really recovered despite some late defiance from Nigel Davenport and Tommy-Lee Cox who both scored a belated 33 as their side were dismissed for 166.

At least Old Hill managed to get past the 160 mark, picking up a couple of batting bonus points in the process.

But skipper Danny Cox revealed it could have been completely different story and said: "We dropped Kervezee when he scored six, which didn't help. But for the remainder of his innings, he didn't give a chance.

"But the two bonus points we picked up at the end could still prove crucial."

With leaders Walsall continuing their winning streak, Cox accepts the chasing sides are now playing for second place.

But the Haden Hill side cannot afford anymore slip-ups themselves as they are currently 22 points adrift of second placed Smethwick with just four more games to play.

Old Hill entertain Wellington on Saturday which coincides with their open day.

Events start at Haden Hill from 12 noon which includes several challenges such as a 'hit the stumps' competition. There's also a bake-off and loads of other activities taking place.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Old Hill make the short trip to local rivals Himley.
