GORNAL boss Andy Wyton says his players are not showing the commitment needed to be realistic promotion contenders this season.

The Garden Walk gaffer has demanded more from his talented squad after they fell to their first defeat of the season against Stone Old Alleynians last Saturday.

"We have all the talent needed to be up there fighting for promotion but aren't backing it up with the right commitment," he said.

"The defeat at Stone has been on the cards for a few weeks now because the attitude hasn't been right from the players.

Wyton is unhappy at the amount of players that have been missing games and mid-week training due to various reasons other than injury.

"I have been left to field patched up sides each week," he added. "Yes, there have been a few out injured and suspended, but others have been away and just unable to play.

"It's not good enough and it is holding us back.

"Against Stone they didn't work hard enough either and I think they believe that they can just turn up and win games and their ability will get them through. It doesn't work like that.

"I have told the players that the attitude needs to change and they have to start showing more commitment, especially in training each week.

"I want a reaction from them now. They have to show they want to play for this club."

The Peacocks face Littleton at Garden Walk this Saturday in the FA Vase (3pm).

Meanwhile, midfielder Brett McGilligan is now available for selection after missing the start of the season.

Defender Alex Dallison could also return from suspension to feature.
