HALESOWEN Academy took their second win of the season with Jack Stanton-Warren crossing the line first at the criterium race in Tameside, Manchester, last Tuesday.

The Ludlow racer, who has been Halesowen’s man in form in recent weeks, attacked early on and was away for 18 laps taking an intermediate prize, and then attacked again close to the finish to take a impressive solo victory.

This week is a massive one for the Halesowen cycling club with two major events on the calendar.

The popular Friday night track league resumes at the Manor Abbey velodrome this week, with close to 100 riders registered to race in a programme that lasts until September 2, and includes racing for all levels from under-10 to elite.

Last year’s winner Charles Walker will ride again, as does local elite rider Jacob Tipper, in between national commitments for the PedalHeaven team, while Wolverhampton professional Jack Escritt could provide stiff competition for the home contingent.

Halesowen also promote their biggest event of the year this Sunday with their road race over 70 miles on the Astley circuit in Worcestershire, as the West Midlands Road Race League resumes.

Stanton-Warren and Walker will carry the promoting club’s hopes along with other promising youngsters in the form of Olli Dighton, Nick Clayton, Tom Swingler and Jo Hobbs as Halesowen attempt to dislodge leaders Rhino Racing from the series lead.
