VICTORY at Attock lifted Himley into second place in Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League.

The four-wicket success away from home last Saturday has pushed the Stourbridge Road side firmly into this season’s promotion picture.

The visitors bowled out Attock, who had won the toss and elected to bat, for just 86 runs by the 28th over.

Jamie Turner took four wickets for 31 runs while team-mate Elliot Hopkin continued his fine form with the ball since coming into the side by taking three wickets for just eight runs to account for the middle order.

However, it looked like Himley might make hard work of their chase when losing their top order cheaply.

Will Fraine (17), Greg Wright (2), Mike Jones (6) and Chris Boroughs (0) all failed to fire.

Skipper Ben Smith’s unbeaten 27 helped ease them home.

Smith said: “It wasn’t a good wicket and I think the scores reflected that, but we bowled well again. That has been a big strength of ours this season.

“To win games in the manner we have, without really batting teams out of it, shows there is much more to come. Once our batting clicks then we should get even better.

“Our top three or four have had to work hard so far but we are close to getting it right.

They will face Sutton Coldfield at home this Saturday (noon start).

Daniel Durman is set to return to the fold after his absence last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Smith praised the impact of bowler Hopkin.

“He has done really well after coming in from the seconds,” he added.

“He has shown he is not out of his depth and has taken wickets.”
