OLD Hill were left frustrated as Moseley’s last-wicket stand managed to get them over the line at Haden Hill last Saturday.

The visitors were reduced to 125-9 needing 11 more runs for victory, but Abdullah Awan (9 not out) and Fred Eburah (8no) managed to guide them home.

Old Hill, who sit bottom of Division One of the Birmingham and District League, had earlier been bowled out for 135 after being put into bat by mid-table Moseley.

Their top order failed to fire before Billy Cox hit 60 to edge his side up towards a more competitive total.

The hosts soon set about defending their score, with Nigel Davenport (4-44) and Cox (3-41) helping to put Old Hill in the driving seat.

However, they were to be disappointed as Moseley just did enough in the closing stages.

Skipper Danny Cox believes his side are starting to find the sort of form that could see them begin to move away from the drop zone.

He said: “Our biggest issue this season has been our batting. If we can just find a bit of confidence as a group then we would be in a strong position because I would back us to bowl anyone out.

“It has been difficult for both myself and Monil (Patel) this season. If we can get some time batting together that could make a difference as well.

“It has also been a stop-start season with the weather, which has stopped us training more than once a week a lot of the time. The important thing is we are not cut off at the bottom and have started to improve. Hopefully we are getting close to everything clicking for us.”

Old Hill will now go to eight-placed Bromsgrove on Saturday (noon start).
