HALESOWEN Swimming Club travelled to Cheslyn Hay for the final round of the Mercian Summer League.

With many swimmers unable to swim for various reasons, a depleted team had a tough gala ahead of them, particularly as other teams were fielding their top swimmers from across the region.

Halesowen started well and were in first place after 10 races, but with younger swimmers having to swim in older age groups they soon fell into last place.

The team had some good relay results towards the end, finishing in fifth place and pushing Solihull into last position.

First places were hard to come by, but Richard Phillips won both the open age 100m Individual Medley and 100m butterfly. Max Rollason was also a winner in the open age 100m backstroke.

The under-14 years girls freestyle relay team were successful and consisted of Paige Robbins, Jessica Jones, Melissa Parsons and Holly Simpson.

Robbins, Jones and Parsons then swan against much older swimmers, together with Tracey Worton in the open age girls’ freestyle relay to win again.

The under-12 years and under boys relay team were unbeatable, winning both their medley and freestyle relay.

The team included Adam Ryan, Joe South, Dermot Cameron, Oliver Bradley-Wood and Gregory Sheppard.

The open boys medley relay team were also winners and consisted of Owen Crump, George Davis, Richard Phillips and James Quiney.

Final point scores were Cannock Pheonix 190, Wombourne 187, Lichfield 180, Northgate 171, Halesowen 159, Solihull 147.
