MARTIN Thomas admits it is tough for his Lye Town side to have to play so many away games at the start of the season.

Town will play the first seven matches away from home due to Lye Cricket Club using the Stourbridge Road site.

Joint-boss Thomas said: “It is a burden for us because there is a lot of travelling involved.

“We understand the situation and know to expect it, but it is something we still have to contend with and take into consideration.”

Town started their league campaign with a 3-2 win at Coleshill Town last Saturday, but drew 3-3 at Loughborough University on Tuesday night.

The draw disappointed Thomas after his side had taken a 3-1 lead into the break thanks to goals from Sam Tye, Ben Billingham and Jack Till.

He added: “When you are leading at half time you are disappointed to draw. It was probably a fair result but we still should have been able to see the game out.”

“Overall, it has probably been a good start to the season, especially because we have been playing away.”

Town will take on Kidsgrove Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday. A coach will be leaving the ground at 11.45pm. Fans are asked to contact the club to see if space is available.

Games against Alvechurch, Sporting Khalsa and Tividale will follow in the next fortnight.

“They are games to look forward to,” added Thomas. “You have to play them at some stage and there is no doubt that they won’t be looking forward to facing Lye Town,” added Thomas.

The club is looking for a matchday assistant. Anyone interested is asked to contact the club through their website.
