National League Division 2 North

Stourbridge 45, Scunthorpe 20

STOURBRIDGE Director of Rugby Neil Mitchell accused his players of being disrespectful following their victory over Scunthorpe.

Stour had romped to their fourth straight win this season to go top of the table, but that didn't cut any ice with Mitchell who claimed: "I was disappointed today - not with the score but with the performance which I can only describe as best as mediocre.

"We were too casual, disrespectful and lethargic in the first half.

"Scunthorpe offered no more than anyone else we've played this season and we have to capitalise on opportunities, but we didn't show the effort.

"I thought it was a poor show and we will have to do better next week against Leicester Lions which will provide us with a big test."

Stour took charge from the word go against Scunthorpe and took just 97 seconds to open their account when outside centre Joe Heatley raced through a flimsy defence to score and fly half Luke White converted.

Scunthorpe, who clearly attacked far better than they defended, hit back with a penalty from Will Robinson.

From that point play became one-way traffic as Stour built a 33-3 lead by half time.

Inspirational No.8 Ciaran Moore drove over for a second try before second row Chris Depper charged over for a third.

Flanker Nigel Mukarati then notched a fourth and bonus point try on the half hour before hooker Sam Wilkes made it five right on the stroke of half time.

White added three more conversion points while Scunthorpe didn't help their cause by having loose head prop Aaron Coultard and full back Colin Chapman sent to the sin bin for persistent infringements.

In truth, Stour could have added further tries had their handling been better and the second half suggested the floodgates would open.

Instead Scunthorpe struck back instantly with a 41st minute try from second row Nick Syddall.

Stour responded with a sixth try from right wing Ashley Elvers on 44 minutes.

From that point Scunthorpe took charge. Continual pressure was rewarded with tries for flanker Ashley Dibden and inside centre Sam Morgan with Robinson adding a conversion to make the score 38-20.

Stour's frustration spilt over as both flanker Billy Harding and left wing Joe Bridger were yellow carded.

Stour had the final word when Heatley sprinted clear on the overlap to score and replacement fly half Chris Scott kicked the extras.

Stour: Fellows; Elvers, Heatley, Phillips, Bridger; White, Tibbetts; Goerge, Wilkes, thorne; Depper, Murphy; Mukarati, Harding Moore. Replacements: Thorp, Lea, Munro. Otutaha, Scott.
