LYE Town boss Martin Thomas reckons "all of the pressure" is on opponents Westfields ahead of Saturday's clash of the titans.

Second-placed Lye moved to within two points of leaders Alvechurch with two games in hand after goals from Ben Billingham, Jack Till (2) and substitute Mark Danks fired them to a 4-0 home win over Shawbury on Tuesday.

Westfields sit third, seven points behind Lye with four games in hand, but Thomas believes the trail blazed by the Herefordshire side early on burdens them with the weight of expectation.

"All of the pressure is on them," said Thomas. "They are at home and started out as favourites earlier in the season. I am sure we will approach it in the right manner because any game is a big game.

"Everyone raises their game against the top sides. Shawbury did not lie down and die, even at 4-0 down they were full of running and Alvechurch, Sporting Khalsa, Westfields, Coleshill and Heanor will all find that as the season goes on.

"You have to cope with pressure in every match and if you do, you might be in with a shout of winning prizes in May. Leagues are not won in December or January, I've won a couple in my time and you need a bit of luck."

On the Shawbury success, Thomas added: "We were not put under pressure and the good thing was getting the clean sheet and boosting the goal difference because I think that may come into it.

"There is a lot of competition and any one of six clubs could still win it. We are keeping quite a few clean sheets."

James Spray, Sam Mills and captain Ben Jeavons are in contention for a return but Chris Knight is unlikely to feature.
