HALESOWEN’S skipper said his side will have to re-assess how they play spinners after their recent run of victories came to an end at Pershore.

Captain Richard Brooker’s comments came after the defeat to their Worcestershire rivals who reached 217 for seven after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Solid contributions from Liam Ridings (49), Adam Wiffen (43) and Chris Ridings (42 not out) were overshadowed by a belligerent unbeaten 49 from 20 balls from Charlie Norton for Pershore.

Masharraf Shazad took 3-57 for Halesowen, who crashed to 136 all out in reply, unable to fathom the mysteries of spinner Matt Brace, who finished with 7-28.

Brooker said: “It’s not really a result we wanted but after five positive games on the spin all good things come to an end at some point and we just have to re-assess how we play the spinners for next week’s visit of Coventry.”

Meanwhile the 2nd XI played out a losing draw with Brockhampton, whose upper order put the Halesowen attack to the sword.

Porter and Mockler peeled off 100s as Brock racked up 286 all out in their 50 overs. Halesowen could only muster 166-6 in reply with Williams (50) and Moseley (45) ensuring the draw.

The 3rd XI racked up a massive 297-8 thanks to Naim Luhar (90) Mark Hutchinson (64) and John Aston (38) before Alex Jordans 3-51 knocked over Kidderminster for 210 to win by 87 runs.

The 4th XI were defeated by Five Ways Old Edwardians who chased down Halesowen’s 123 all out.

However the club made history in the process when Hampshire’s Chloe Micklethwaite and former Netherlands all-rounder Hannah Hofman became the first two females to play in the same team for Halesowen who are looking to build a women’s team in the club over the coming months.

They followed in the footsteps of Australia’s Sarah Aley who is currently playing in the Women’s World Cup who played for Halesowen in the 2007 season and have a number of other youngsters coming through the ranks who will look to make their female debut in the teams, or in form a women’s team.

This weekend sees the firsts host Coventry and North Warwick at Seth Somers Park on Saturday (noon), while the second XI head to Shifnal (12.30pm), the thirds host West Malvern at Earls High School (1pm) and the fourths will visit Astwood Bank (1pm).
