HALESOWEN'S former Midlands area boxing champion Peter Jackson has enlisted the help of British heavyweight Danny Williams as he looks to launch a new boxing club to get youngsters into the sport.

Williams, a former British and Commonwealth title holder who landed a famous knock-out victory over Mike Tyson in 2004, will speak at a special fundraising event for Rowley Boxing Club this Thursday.

Guests to Benjamin's Banqueting Suite, Birmingham Road, will get the rare chance to hear about Williams' career and his success over Tyson from 7pm.

Jackson will start his kids' classes at St Michael's School, Curral Road, Rowley Regis, from Monday, September 25. He is then keen to progress to his own facilities in the future.

First he needs to raise extra funds for bags, gloves and ropes to help with the set-up.

He said: "It is great to have Danny's support and it's fantastic that he's coming to talk to fight fans about his career. It is something he rarely does but he's coming up from Brixton as a favour for me and for what we are trying to do with the club.

"I want the club to help more young people get into the sport. Everyone is welcome but there is going to be a big focus on the kids. It won't be about just punching but about balance, team work, jumping rope and keeping fit."

Tickets for the evening, which include chips and curry sauce and a comedian performance, cost £15 and can be bought by calling Peter on 07949248935. Anyone interesting in the club can follow Rowley Boxing Club on Facebook.
