GARY Hackett has criticised a small proportion of Glassboys fans who the boss said marred his side’s Birmingham Senior Cup win on Monday with their “childish behaviour”.

Stourbridge won the tie with local rivals Halesowen Town on penalties after the game finished in a 1-1 stalemate.

However, trouble flared in the terraces once again, as it did when the sides met earlier this month when Stour lost 2-1 to the Yeltz at the War Memorial Ground.

In that game, two smoke bombs were thrown during the course of the match, the second resulting in a Yeltz fan in her 60s suffering burns to the neck.

Flares were seen once again on Monday night, and Hackett has called on fans to report those responsible for bringing smoke bombs into the ground to the club.

Hackett said: “We deserved to win the game over the course of 90 minutes and it was a very exciting game.

“But it was marred by a very small section of fans who need to stop their childish behaviour and grow up.

“There is no need for any fan to bring a flare into the ground, and those responsible need to stop now as they are really damaging the reputation of our great club.

“The majority of our fans are magnificent and the support they give to the players is brilliant, week in week out.

“I am hoping the club’s true fans will start to name the few individuals, who continue their idiotic behaviour when we play Halesowen.”

Andy Bullingham, the club’s vice chairman, echoed the calls of his manager as he took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

He wrote: “So proud yet so disappointed. Goal and first team debut for Alex Cameron and then embarrassed by non-fans behaviour again.

“Please find another club to support if you feel Stourbridge FC is somewhere to come and misbehave. We’ve worked hard to get our good reputation.”

A spokesman for the club said Stourbridge has reminded fans that throwing flares can result in a prison sentence.
