How they rated:

Halesowen 1, Stourbridge 0

Halesowen:

Platt: Made some important saves again for his side. One good save from Benbow in the first half and tipped another effort over in the second half. Reliable. 7.

Lewis: Did okay as he helped shut down space in the Stour attacking third. Dealt with the threat of Carnat well. 6.

Kelly: Good energy and another who showed the discipline to get back and defend throughout. Managed to deliver a few balls from the left and saw one free kick strike the wall. 6.

Poscha: Deployed in a defensive midfield role and sat and protected the back line throughout. Won some important headers but didn't venture too far forward. 6.

Morrison: Defended well throughout, especially in the second half as the Yeltz dropped deeper. 7.

Charlton: Along with Morrison he also helped close down the threat of Benbow. Another that won some big headers late on and positioned himself well to bag that vital clean sheet. 7.

Lawton: Had more of an impact as the game went on and offered Hughes much more support in the second half. Fouled as Pierpoint saw red in the second half. 7.

Bragoli: Another energetic showing from the skipper. The game bypassed midfield for much of the time but he dug in and helped protect the backline. 6.5.

Hughes: The former Albion hitman rolled back the years to put in a fine performance to lead the line for his side. Despite being isolated at times he was a constant thorn in the side of the Stour rearguard. Big hand in the winning goal and could have had a goal himself late on. 8.

Ali: Won the ball a few times in midfield and came up with the winner in the first half. Powerful support run for Hughes saw him on hand to tap in the rebound after Gould had saved Hughes' initial effort. 6.5.

Goddard: Another who had to show good discipline to help his side defend. Didn't affect the game in the final third like he can but his set-piece delivery was always a threat. 6.5.

Subs: Knight: Late change has Hales looked to hold on for the win. N/A.

Agbor: Replaced Goddard with 15 left on the clock and gave his side some much-needed fresh legs on the break. 6.

Oyenuga: Replaced Lewis and helped his side over the line. 6.

Unused subs: Byrnes, Parsons.

Stourbridge:

Gould: Made some good saves throughout, especially as Hales looked to wrap up the game on the counter late on. 7.

Hayden: Did well early on against Hughes and defended well when called upon. 6.

Westlake: Carried the ball well and looked to link up in attack down the left without much joy. 6.

McCone: Had a good derby day tussle with Hughes throughout and won some important defensive headers in the second half. Did get caught on the ball for Halesowen's opener. 6.5.

Pierpoint: Another who defended well but looked unlucky to get a red for a second half foul on Ivor Lawton. He bundled over the midfielder just outside the box but had done well to hold up his opponent as McCone got across to support. 6.

Forde: A game that proved difficult for the Stour midfielders. So often the ball sailed over their heads. Forde couldn't influence the game as he's capable of doing and eventually picked up a knock before the hour mark. 6.

Gallagher: The game passed him by for long spells before he was replaced by Shearer late on. 5.

Broadhurst: Another who couldn't get on the ball enough as Hales packed out the midfield and got numbers behind the ball. 5.5.

Benbow: Stour's best hope of a goal. Struck the post and saw another effort saved early on before being crowded out in the second half as supply dried up. 7.

Birch: Another energetic showing from the midfielder but another who was successfully stifled by the Yeltz defensive set-up. 5.5.

Carnat: Again he showed good flashes of ability early on to get balls into the box and work a few efforts from range that were blocked. However, again he drifted out of the contest. 6.

Subs: Shearer: Couldn't influence the game from out on the right after his introduction. 5.

Cooke: Drilled one effort narrowly wide from just outside the box as Stour looked for a way back. 6.

Tonks: Good energy but couldn't get on the ball enough in midfield as the Yeltz shut down the space. 6.

Unused subs: Christophorou, Hawk.
