HALESOWEN Cycling Club was in action on three fronts last Sunday as Tom Swingler and new signing Cameron Biddle rode strongly in the Tour of the Mining Valleys event near Aberystwyth.

Matt Clarke, who has already managed a top 10 in an international race in Majorca this season, figured in three breakaway attempts in the East Midlands League event at Hanbury and ended up frustrated that the race was not long or hard enough for him but still came home in seventh.

Patrick Fotheringham, meanwhile, made a break midway through the one-hour race before finishing eighth in the blanket finish. His team mate Nick Clayton made several breaks in the elite event, and featured in a late attack before letting the sprinters do their thing.

The West Midlands season had a false start on the first weekend of April with the opening race cancelled due to road works.

This weekend the Halesowen riders, who enjoy backing from the Wenlock Spring Mineral Water company, are again in action on several fronts. Fotheringham and Swingler are on home turf at the Three Counties road race near Bridgnorth – an event Swingler won in 2015 – while Biddle and Clarke race in the Totnes-Vire two-day in Devon.

The team’s juniors, Henry Lloyd Langston and Dan Morris, are currently on training camp in Majorca.
