SAM Eggington is determined to deliver another win in front of his home fans when he returns to the ring this month.

The Stourbridge boxer will look to take another step up the super-welterweight ranks when he fights Austrian Gogi Knezevic at the Holte Suite, Villa Park, Birmingham, on Saturday, June 30.

He will be looking to build on his second round stoppage of Hungarian Achilles Szabo when making his debut at 154lb in April.

Knezevic comes into the clash on the back of a points win over the same opponent in March.

However, it's giving local fight fans something to cheer that is the Savage's big motivation when he tops the bill on the 'Savage Intentions' show, which is being jointly put together by Matchroom and promoter Tommy Owens.

Eggington said: "Of course you want to be in big shows but this is a chance to fight in front of my home fans back where it all started.

"I don't care how many rounds it goes as long as the win is there for the fans.

"I can't thank them enough. There are people who come and buy handfuls of tickets regardless of where it is or how I got on in my last fight.

"A win would be a small way of saying thank you for the fans' support."

On his preparations for the event, he added: "Everything is going really well and I started sparring this week. I'm really tired at the moment because I'm working really hard. Not having the weight issue means I'm able to do that."

Owens added: "It's no good for Sam to be sitting around and not being active so this will hopefully help him take another step forward.

"He's an exciting fighter and all roads are leading to shows all around the country and even over in America. His fans may have to travel more to see him after this so it's a good opportunity for them to see him in the Midlands again."

Tickets, starting from £40, can be bought from from topboxing.co.uk or the boxers directly.
