NETHERTON’S winning run was brought to a halt on Saturday after an impressive batting display by table-topping Rushwick.

Four victories in a row would have left Netherton high in confidence as they head down to the Worcestershire village for the Division Three tie.

After losing the toss, the visitors were put into bat and the openers put together a good haul of runs, with Russell Oseland and Matthew Lowe picking up 21 and 46 respectively.

Troy Lee came into bat and scored an impressive 59 before being caught out by Rushwick’s Dan Metcalfe.

Once Lee and Mohammed Wasim Nawaz (44) were gone the wickets began to fall, but Ibrar Hussain gave his side some resistance as the best of the tailenders with 21, leaving the home side a target of 231 to chase.

Victory depended on Netherton quickly dispatching Rushwick’s top order, but openers Duncan Cooper (71) and a top scorer Stuart Parker (76) put the home side in control.

Rushwick’s Niwantha Indima and Stuart Tipper (both not out) pushed their team to 232 in 47.2 overs, claiming the full 20 points in the seven wicket win.
