RICHARD Colwell says he quit Causeway United because the club did not share his professional outlook.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Highgate United, which left Causeway 18th in the Midland Alliance, proved to be his last in charge as he brought his five month reign to an end on Monday. Assistant Ross Collins has also departed.

Colwell, who originally joined United in 2011 as a coach under then boss Carl Burley, said he felt his and the club’s visions did not match.

He said: “I wanted to run things a little more professionally and I don’t think the club really wanted that.

“Maybe I over-estimated things a little.

“From where I come from you should do things the right way but I think some of the players preferred a relaxed atmosphere.

“I wanted to improve players but I think too often our instructions were not listened to because they felt it did not matter.”

Colwell denied poor results had been a factor in his decision.

He added: “This was not a decision I came to lightly.

“It has nothing to do with the result on Saturday.

“ I am not a quitter and I don’t like that aspect of this.

“But I felt it’s the right thing for me and it may turn out to be the right thing for the club in the long run.”
