Giles leads way for Stour

STOURBRIDGE runner Matt Giles claimed an impressive sixth at the Birmingham and District Cross-county League at Droitwich.

Giles finished in a time of 43 minutes 12 seconds as he helped Stourbridge Running Club’s 13-strong men’s claim third place overall, their best result of the season.

On a tough and muddy course, Duncan Cornish was the next Stour man home in 45.40, with Andy Aston recording a time of 47.01.

Stour ladies managed 29th overall at Sandwell Valley Country Park in the latest round of the Midlands Women’s League.

Joan Clarke was the first Stour runner over the line in a time of 31.18, while Zoe Yeomans finished the six-kilometre course in 35.49 and Natalie Dellar was not far behind in 36.04.

Places are still available on Stourbridge’s annual Stagger race, which takes place on Sunday, February 3.
