Ghent set for Brum return

DUDLEY boxer Tommy Ghent will make his long-awaited return to the ring later this month.

The highly-rated light-middleweight will appear on the bill at Birmingham’s HMV Institute on February 24.

It will be Ghent’s first appearance in more than a year, after injury and personal issues placed his lightening quick start to life in the pro ranks on temporary hiatus.

The 20-year-old Priory Park fighter is signed to Matchroom Sports and served notice of his potential by winning his first two fights inside two rounds.

Trainer Paul Gough says Ghent can’t wait to pick up where he left off.

He said: “It’s been a bit of a frustrating time for Tommy but his mind is now firmly focused on the job.

“He just can’t wait to get back in there.”

Ghent’s last two fights were screened on Sky Sports but Gough believes a low-key setting will be ideal for his comeback.

He added: “Tommy is still with Matchroom and they are still very keen on him.

“But I wanted him to have a couple of local shows first as he finds his way back and they are happy with that.”

The Institute show will be another milestone for Priory Park as they blood their sixth professional, lighweight Ryan Corrigan.

Stourbridge’s Sam Eggington is also on the bill, in his first outing since last month’s blistering display on Prizefighter.
