Yeltz ready for manic March
2:00pm Thursday 28th February 2013 in Sport
JOHN Hill believes a manic March will be the month which defines Halesowen Town’s season.
The in-form Yeltz face eight huge games as they chase a place in the Northern League Division One South play-offs, starting with Saturday’s trip to Rainworth Miners Welfare.
That is followed by a home game with Belper Town on Tuesday, who sit one place and three points above Halesowen in fifth.
Games with league leaders Coalville Town and high-flying Stamford are also on the agenda.
Hill said: “The play-off picture is changing all the time but I think March is going to sort it all out.
“We’ve got eight tough games and many of the teams in contention are playing each other.
“I’m sure there will be a few twists and turns along the way. All we can do is keep winning.”
The Yeltz extended their winning run to six games with a 3-0 home win over Loughborough Dynamo last Saturday.
All goals came in the first half, with Ben Haseley snaring two to take his tally for the season to 36.
Hill has tried to keep a lid on expectations during the club’s run and told the News last month he would only get excited when their winning run hit six.
But he has now increased the magic number. He said: “I know I said people could start getting excited after we won six and I would be but for the fact everyone else is winning too.
“The teams above us are not slipping up so maybe we should make it ten.
“At the end of the day we can only look after ourselves and I was very pleased with the way we played against Loughborough.
“Ben came off the pitch at the end and asked for extra shooting practice this week because he missed a few chances despite scoring two. It could easily have been 8-0.”
Winger Jean-Michel Gueyes started the game against Loughborough after Tamworth ended their interest in the player.
