Pedersen rejects new Heathens offer
11:06pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Sport
HEATHENS bosses have paid tribute to 1991 world champion Jan O Pedersen after he rejected their offer to stay with the club.
Pedersen, who helped inspire the former Cradley outfit to the top of the National League table last year as team coach, announced his departure on Facebook.
Club Chairman Nigel Pearson said: "It's disappointing news but we fully understand and respect Jan O's decision.
"We offered him the same terms as last season but it appears those terms are no longer acceptable. We are not in a position to offer anyone a full-time role, no club within British Speedway employs a full-time manager or coach and we are no different.
"Jan O has said he needs to find something else and we have to respect that, but as I stated recently we would love to accommodate him even if he had a full-time role elsewhere.
"He is a true Heathens legend and a fantastic coach and mentor. He was one of my favourite riders when I was a supporter on the terraces but he's also a great guy.
"On behalf of myself, Chris Van Straaten and Gary Patchett, I would like to offer sincere good wishes to Jan O and he is always a welcome guest. I hope we get the chance to work together again in the future."
