CHAMPIONS of the Dudley and Cradley Sunday League Bush Athletic added two more pieces of silverware to their sparkling season, both coming via dramatic penalty shootouts.

First up it was the Ray Turley Memorial Trophy final at Dudley Sports when they came out on top 6-5 on penalties against Pensnett United.

The game had finished 2-2 after extra time. Pensnett broke the deadlock on 33 minutes when Kyle Smith turned in Alex Perry’s cross But ten minutes later Adam Harris set up David Brown for the equaliser. No further goals arrived in normal time and in the first period of extra time Bush were grateful to keeper Mark Garvey for keeping them in it and it looked to be pivotal as three minutes from time Kieran Bennett put them in front but two minutes later Perry dramatically levelled.

Then came the drama of spot kicks and it was Bush who finally came through 6-5 in sudden death.

Less than 48 hours later Bush were back on the trophy trail against the team they pipped for the league title - Wackers, the only team to have taken points off them this season - this time the Dudley Guest Hospital Cup taking centre stage at Tividale FC.

This time it finished 11 and again Bush came out on top in the shootout 4-3.

Pensnett were also back in action as they completed their league programme with an 11-3 win at Lloyds in the Premier Division.

Shaun Saunders made amend for Friday night with a first half hat-trick and Kyle Smith opened is match treble with a goal in the first half. Lloyd’s scorer was Anthony Slater with a 25-yard free kick. Smith completed his hat-trick with two after the break supported by goals from Andrew Parsons, Chris Baylis and Chris Knight. Lloyd’s scorers were Jason Witts and Les Greenaway.

The game was played in a good spirit with all the goals coming in the second half. The other remaining game saw Dudley Olympic lose 5-3 at home to Barley Mow Wanderers.
