Spin-twins boost Coombs Wood cause

COOMBS Wood kept one eye firmly on the weather as they clinched a winning draw against second placed Colwall to climb within two points of safety in Worcestershire League Division Two.
Skipper Mike Langford adopted an unusual strategy of opening the bowling with spin and the move paid off as Stuart Baker kept runs to a minimum, before leg spinner Sam Perruzza took over and claimed 4-68.
At the opposite end, Ganesh Radhakrishnam claimed 4-54 as Colwall were restricted to 258-9 despite Dan McKay cracked 85, Tom Coleman struck a further 68 and with Max Backhouse adding 45.
Wood saw Dan Birch top-score with 38 as their innings closed on 157-3.
Coombs Wood travel to Feckenham this Saturday.
n Romsley and Hunnington remain 32 points clear of Division Three’s drop zone despite having their game with Malvern abandoned.
Greg Whittlestone held Romsley’s batting together with 59 as his side were removed for 164.
Malvern had raced to 85-2 when rain arrived.
Romsley travel to leaders Lye on Saturday.
