Lye Town pulled off a big FA Cup shock when they came from 2-0 down to defeat last season’s Midland Alliance runners-up Westfields 3-2.
Callum Evitts came to the rescue with a second-half hat-trick to seal a memorable victory and book Lye a trip to Coventry Sphinx on August 31.
Lye’s joint boss Martin Thomas said: “Callum was playing wide left and making little impact. We had two recognised strikers on the bench in Leon John and Andy Mitchell, so  we decided it was time to reshuffle things.
“We threw Callum down the middle while we sorted out who to bring on — and Callum scored.
“Within five minutes he’d got a second goal and then went onto complete his hat-trick.
“He’s told everyone that the prize money is all his now!”
Lye made an unfortunate start when Westfields striker Josh Hunt collided with goalkeeper Jake James and the ball ended up in the net.
Thomas added: “We were all waiting for the free-kick, but the referee awarded the goal, even though Jake had blood all over his face where he’d been caught.
“The second strike from Alex O’Leary was a beauty, but I always thought we’d get back into the game”.
Meanwhile, Lye had to come from 2-0 down against against Wellington Amateurs on Tuesday night, but this time they had to be content with a 2-2 draw in a West Midland League contest.
Two goals from Steve Weaver maintained Lye’s unbeaten start to the season.
This Saturday, they travel to Wednesfield in another West Midlands League fixture.
