DUDLEY Heathens are urging fans to turn out in force for the final push for a clean sweep of National League honours - and a major rider announcement.
When they face the Isle of Wight at Monmore Green next Tuesday in their play-off semi-final, they will make what they describe as ‘an exciting rider announcement’ on the parade before the first race.
The former Cradley club have already won the National Shield, Pairs and Fours titles and are in a good position to reach the Knockout Cup Final.
And they start their play-off semi-final as clear favourites to get the better of the Islanders, who include former Heathens favourites Tom Perry and Darryl Ritchings.
Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: “We can confirm we will be making an exciting rider announcement just before the play-off meeting with the Isle of Wight.
“That’s all I’m prepared to say on the matter at this stage but I am sure fans will be delighted with the news.
“It just adds interest to the meeting which should be keenly contested. We can’t afford to take the Islanders for granted and I’m sure it will be a good night of speedway.
“We will need a handy lead to take down to Smallbrook in October and the league results between the sides, when we did the double over them, count for nothing now.
“I’ll be delighted to see us put in a performance similar to last week when we achieved a 22-point lead over King’s Lynn in the Knockout Cup semi-final.
“That gives us a good cushion to take into the second leg next Wednesday. The target for us is to reach the final of both the play-offs and Knockout Cup by 10pm on October 1. That would set us up for as thrilling end to the season.
“The King’s Lynn meeting was one of the best of the season in front of a great crowd considering the cold conditions and the England international football game on TV.
“Our supporters have stayed behind this team in great numbers and we hope a few Cradley fans who haven’t tried the modern era at Wolverhampton will come along for the business end of the season.”
