Heathens looking to complete a clean sweep
12:39pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in Sport
DUDLEY aim to complete a magnificent clean sweep of National honours when they host the Knockout Cup Final on the biggest night of the modern Heathens era next Tuesday.
And boss Will Pottinger is desperate to see the league champions continue the old Cradley tradition of winning the cup after their amazing record of eight wins between 1979-89.
They will face either Isle of Wight or Mildenhall on what is sure to be an emotional night as it will be the first time the team have raced as league champions in front of their home support. And they’ll be watched by Dudley’s Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Alan and Mrs Heather Finch, who will present the silverware.
Pottinger said: “Next Tuesday is a massive night for the club in so many ways and we are expecting a big crowd.
“When you consider we have won the National Shield, Pairs, Fours and now the league title itself, the only thing missing is the Knockout Cup.
“Whoever we race, Isle of Wight or Mildenhall, we will got for it. All the lads are ready, we’ve had a couple of weeks since we won the league title and we would love to finish with the clean sweep.
“I’m sure the terraces will be packed at Monmore Green because the lads will have the league trophy to display which is great for everyone.
“But we can’t afford to celebrate too much because we have a job to do in the cup final. I want to ensure all the lads are fully focussed and we just want to see it through.”
Normal admission prices apply next Tuesday – £11 adults, £8 concessions and £2 children and a special 40-page souvenir programme will be produced for £3.
Heathens have also revealed a high demand for tickets to their end of season celebration night which is to be held on Friday, November 15.
The event, which will feature presentations of medals to all the riders, takes place at the Copthorne Hotel, Level Street, Brierley Hill in the Earls Suite.
Over 250 tickets have already been snapped up and the event is expected to be a sellout. Tickets, priced £10, are available from the track shop on Tuesday or from the club website dudleyheathens.co at the shop section.
