HANNAH Payton has to pick herself up after proving out of luck at the National Cyclo-Cross Championships in Derby.

The Kingswinford rider was involved in a couple of crashes and finally came home a below-par 12th.

Despite her disappointment, Payton has still been selected for Great Britain’s team to compete at the World Championships in Holland, which take place at the beginning of February.

It should put the seal on a superb season which has seen her win the National Trophy Series.

It wasn’t all glum news for the Payton family as father and coach Kevin came home ninth in the veterans' over-50 race – his best ever showing – while his son Tom Payton finished 24th in the senior men’s race.

Stourbridge Cycling Club’s Jayne Cheslin claimed 19th place in the women’s over-40 race, her first at National level, while promising Anthony Neave was 19th in the junior event.
