MEET the past masters of Stourbridge Veterans football side who continued their winning spree with a 4-2 success at Rugeley based Brereton this week.

Two goals from lethal Lee Booth, plus further strikes by former Glassboys favourites Stan Jones and Pete Gocan did the trick.

Although Stourbridge have proved the team to beat in recent times, club spokesman Darren Alderson insisted: “We don’t have matters all our own way. “Some of the teams in our league treat their game ag-ainst us as a cup final, so we have to be at our best all the time”

“If it was a whitewash every week, then we wouldn’t be competing in the league.

“There are younger players coming through all the time and some teams, especially Rushall Olympic, are very strong.

“Although we’re only supposed to play every fortnight, we’ve got a run of five consecutive weeks, starting with a trip to Penkridge this Sunday Back: Lee Booth (left), Adam Bastable, Giles Parry, Danny McDonnell, Darren Alderson, Bob Taylor, Clive Stokes. Front: Lee Williams, Chris Pardoe, Stan Jones, Pete Gocan, Neil Smith, Danny Adams and Paul Wells.

Missing from the line-up are Tim Nicholls and Gloucester City assistant manager Adie Harris, who were on alleged shopping duty at the time! Stourbridge Vets play their home matches at the Thorns.
