HANNAH Payton brought down the curtain on her cyclo-cross season by finishing 35th in the World Championships, which took place in Holland this week.

It proved the climax to a glittering season which has seen the Kingswinford rider win the National Trophy Series and represent Great Britain in the World Cup Series.

Selection for her first World Championship proved a highlight of the season, and Hannah claimed: “Whatever happened on the day, it was a dream come true just to have made the start line.

“I had fantastic support from the many British people in the crowd who had travelled over to watch the race and that always encourages me to go faster. The whole experience was unforgettable.”

Dutch rider Marianne Vos, who claimed the London Olympic road race title, won the event, with Great Britain’s European cyclo-cross champion and full-time professional Helen Whyman in third spot.

Hannah now takes a well-earned break from her cyclo-cross exploits, but will soon be back in the saddle again as she prepares for the forthcoming road race season.
