Kingswinford blown away by Bloxwich

KINGSWINFORD hockey players were given a lesson in finishing after being blown away by Bloxwich 8-0.

Ironically Kingswinford bossed the earl y stages and should have taken the lead after forcing a string of short corners.

But they came up against a Bloxwich goalkeeper at the top of his form who kept Kingswinford at bay.

Consequently Kingswinford became vulnerable to the counter-attack as Bloxwich grew in confidence.

Vice-captain Tim Sanders claimed: “I have never seen a match overturn like it. We dominated possession and forced save after save. Then as soon as Bloxwich scored their first goal, they were like a different team altogether”.

Sanders points to a save made by the Bloxwich goalkeeper from a fierce Billy Jawanda shot as the vital moment of the game.

Kingswinford didn’t help their cause by having two yellow cards in the final 15 minutes and Sanders added: “Considering the majority of players in the first team are helping out after a season of turmoil, we are just doing our best in very difficult circumstances.

Kingswinford’s second string could only raise 10 players and suffered a 6-0 defeat at Wednesbury despite the efforts of goalkeeper Glenn Dunn whose fine saves even drew applause from opposition supporters.
