Town boss says Lye game real test

DUDLEY Town boss Andy Wyton is preparing his side for a tough trip to face Lye Town on Saturday as they attempt to play their first competitive game of 2014.

With last night’s visit to local rivals Dudley Sports falling foul of the weather, Town had a friendly at Halesowen Town on Monday evening, which the Yeltz won 4-1.

Wyton says West Midlands Regional League table-toppers Lye are tough opposition at the best of times but after such a long lay-off, and as Lye have managed to fit the odd game in during the bad weather, even more so.

“It’s a real test for us if we want to get up into the top four or five” said Wyton.

“We are playing catch-up, but at least we are unbeaten in 2014,” he joked.

“At least all the postponements have given players who were carrying knocks time to recover but we’re keen to get back into action and hopefully the Lye game will go ahead.”Town have endured one injury blow, with midfielder Tom Gadd suffering a broken foot at work last Monday, just a week after returning to action following a similar injury.

Town are due to be in action again next Wednesday, when Wednesfield visit the Dell Stadium.
