TWO young Thai boxers from Cradley Heath made their mark when they travelled to Bacup in Manchester.

Leading the way was 10-year-old Amy Cook from Amblecote, who won her competition at 54 kilos to claim the North of UK title for her weight and age group.

Lylla Tether, who is eight and from Quarry Bank, lost out in her final, having to settle for a silver medal.

Both girls were representing the Ultimate Martial Arts Academy which is situated at Maypole fields off Hayes Lane. The club specialises in the art of muay thai boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Chief instructor Sean Smith said: “Both girls did extremely well. Lylla has only been with us for 12 months, but already she has a bright future.

“Amy has been at the club for five years and has already had a good number of contests.

“Her contest in Manchester was stopped after 15 seconds of the second round, but in truth, it should have finished earlier because I don’t think her opponent wanted to come out for the second round!
