SPEED merchant Lee Slater brought the curtain down on a highly promising Birmingham League Cross Country Division Two campaign with an excellent eighth place at Coventry.

Dudley and Stourbridge Harrier Slater made his mark in a field of over 260 runners to finish fifth overall from the best of three races.

Slater’s superb effort saw him clock 40 mins 10secs, while teammates Dave Ratcliffe and Dave Nation continued their season long tussle close behind.

Ratcliffe raced home for his best run of the season in 33rd place clocking 43-06 while Nation claimed 36th place, just 10 seconds adrift.

Jordan Smith in 133rd place, Scott Palmer 155th and Darrel Bodin 157th completed the scoring six as DASH finished 11th team in a very competitive division this season.

DASH also had 25 runners in action at the final West Midlands Young Athletes League meeting which took place in Perry Barr.

Elliot Jones produced an excellent run in the Under-15 boys race to finish sixth and fifth overall for the series while Alex Hurrell came 14th in the Under-11 boys race.
