HALESOWEN'S Olympic hero Kristian Thomas is preparing for a big year ahead.
The Earls Gymnastics Club member, who was catapulted into the national spotlight after winning a bronze medal at London 2012, now has his sights set on more glory.
He will compete at the English Championships in Wigan this weekend, when he will try out a host of new routines, before heading to the British Championships at the end of the month.
Both events are being used by Thomas as preparation for the European Championships in May, the Commonwealth Games this summer and then the World Championships in China in October.
"My preparation has gone really well. I have managed to stay injury free and have been able to follow my training programme as I wanted," he said.
"I am aiming to medal at the British Championships and to use this month's competitions as preparation for the Europeans, Commonwealths and World Championships.
"I want to medal once again at the World Championships but would like an upgrade in colour," he added.
He also said that he felt the Olympic experience has helped him and Team GBs confidence on the world stage.
"I think our London performance has given us all lots of confidence that we can compete with the very best and showed our progression."
