HALESOWEN A and CC's road team entered five riders in Sunday's Two Counties 50 mile race on a hilly circuit near Bridgnorth.
Junior rider Sam Dighton, 16, finishing in a fine third place after a hard fought contest.
Dighton forged a six rider breakaway group going into the 'Rabbit Run' section of the circuit with some 11 miles remaining to go with able support from team-mates Charles Walker, Joe Hobbs and Patrick Fotheringham riding in the main bunch.
Dighton had proved to be a strongman of the group but was pipped to the line by two older riders, with the main bunch a handful of seconds behind.
Senior rider Will Fotheringham, who got into a breakaway group on the first of three laps, ran out of steam and withdraw to cheer on his son Patrick at the finish.
