CRADLEY seized the upper hand in their Knock Out Cup tie with Mildenhall as they claimed a sensational 49-39 first leg victory over the Fen Tigers.
A determined performance from the in-form Heathens at West Row on Sunday ensured they built up a ten point advantage ahead of the second leg at Monmore Green on Tuesday, June 3.
Despite being without Tom Perry through injury, the visitors put in a tremendous display to claim a memorable win against their rivals.
Team boss Will Pottinger hailed his side after a hugely impressive performance.
He said: "We are chuffed with the performance, everyone put in a shift and did really, really well.
"Mildenhall is a tough place to come, so to leave with a ten point lead is a superb result and full credit to the lads for a top performance."
Steve Worrall led the side in sublime fashion with a 17 point haul, with both himself and Paul Starke suffering just one defeat apiece.
Whilst they led from the front in fine style from the heat-leader positions, they received vital support from elsewhere in what was an encouraging all-around team display.
Youngster Max Clegg claimed an excellent 7+1 point haul featuring a classy win in heat 10, whilst middle-order partner Nathan Greaves also chipped in with four important points from the tough number four race jacket.
Matt Williamson continued his superb run of form with another composed showing at reserve - and with partner Danny Phillips also making a useful contribution the Heathens edged a well-deserved win.
Mildenhall 39: Dan Halsey 11, Joe Jacobs 9, Brendan Johnson 5+1, Josh Bates 5, Connor Coles 4+2, Connor Mountain 3+1, Jack Kingston 2.
Cradley 49: Steve Worrall 17, Paul Starke 12+1, Matt Williamson 7+1. Max Clegg 6+2, Nathan Greaves 4, Danny Phillips 3+1, Tom Perry r/r.
