STOURPORT boxing sensation Jerry Mongan is set for the European Schoolboy Championships after winning gold at British Three Nations tournament.

The 14-year-old sealed another title in the 54 kilogram weight category as he overpowered Scotland's Tobias Haglan in Manchester.

The tournament saw the best young fighters from England, Scotland and Wales come together.

Mongan pushed his opponent on the ropes and his strength, power and repertoire of punches soon took its toll.

With Haglan pinned on the ropes, a bombardment of punches from the Priory Park ABC man was enough for the referee to step in and award a standing count.

The second round saw more of the same and the referee stepped in again, signalling a good strong win for the English boxer.

England were dominant at the tournament with the junior squad winning 11 titles in the various age categories.

Mongan, who is home schooled, had already won the English Schoolboys title earlier in the year and his success at the Three Nations has seen him included in the GB squad fighting the Euros this summer.

To help prepare for the biggest test of his career, he has a warm-up fight in Belfast against a Dublin fighter on June 1.
