Perry returns

CRADLEY were handed a major boost ahead of this week's gruelling racing schedule.

Tom Perry set last night's double-header meeting as his comeback date after coming through a weekend fitness test four weeks after suffering a broken collarbone.

A twist was due to see Perry racing at reserve as he remains on last season’s average after not riding in enough meetings.

Heathens were set to face rivals Mildenhall last night with a 10-point cushion in their Knockout Cup tie before then tackling Scunthorpe in a National League fixture later in the evening.

Perry is desperate to be back racing regularly following his injury.

Ahead of last night's contests, he said: “I had a spin at the weekend and, to be honest, I came off after about 12 laps and landed on the shoulder and felt the muscles.

“But that was down to the track and I had no problem with the collarbone. I’ve got good movement and I’m ready to give it a go.

“Hopefully all will be good and I can get through both meetings.”

Heathens booked Leicestershire rider Lee Geary as cover as they prepared to face the prospect of 30 heats of racing.

Cradley went into the double-header on the back of another convincing victory against Kent last week.

They are next in action on Saturday, June 14 when they go to Devon. The following afternoon Steve Worrall and Max Clegg will represent the club at the National League Pairs at Mildenhall.

Clegg comes in for Paul Starke who is now needed by Premier League club Somerset in a re-arranged fixture.
