STOURBRIDGE won the Worcester inter-league final for the fourth time in six years since the competition re-commenced with a 622-462 success against Redditch.

Karl Ashmore, with 30 and a 38 clearance to win by 65, gave Stourbridge a fine start while Alan Hooper cleared those vital last four balls to beat Craig Kesterton by 21 points.

Chris Southall’s 39 break helped earn a further 26 point win, and although Kevin Ellis cleared the colours to tie with Callum Downing, Bal Sembi, with the aid of a 34 break, extended the first leg advantage to 129 points.

The match, played at Brandhall Labour Club, was refereed by Stuart Barker and Steve Spicer.

Two nights later, at the HDA Club, Redditch, a fluent 55 break by Callum Downing, the prelude to a 74 point win, and a solid performance by Alan Hooper increased the lead to 230.

To their credit, however, Redditch fought back through Steve Long and Scott Carmichael, before Bal Sembi edged the final frame.

The association secretary, John Smith, presented the cup, paying tribute to the sportsmanship displayed by both teams over the ten frames, and commented that this had been a notable feature throughout the tournament.
