Pottinger's praise for table-toppers Cradley

BOSS Will Pottinger has hailed the team performance that sent Cradley Heathens to the top of the National League.

A comprehensive 64-30 victory against Stoke at Monmore Green on Tuesday night saw them leapfrog rivals Mildenhall and move two points clear at the top of the standings.

Pottinger said: “I can’t fault anybody. It was another great team effort and an excellent result.

“It was a solid team performance with everyone playing their part again, so we’ve got to be pleased with that.

“It’s great to go top of the table, and hopefully we can continue our good run of form to make sure we stay there.”

The rampant Heathens comfortably overpowered the Potters with another impressive showing as they continue to establish themselves as the side to beat in the third tier.

Star man Max Clegg led the side superbly with a five-ride paid maximum following some determined riding.

His intentions were highlighted in heat five when he overcame a 15 metre penalty for breaking the starting tape to battle back into second place behind teammate Nathan Greaves to make it another 5-1 for his side. Paul Starke also recorded four wins from his four rides on the night.

Steve Worrall, at number five, narrowly missed out on going unbeaten following a tight battle with Potters man Ben Wilson in heat 15, yet he proved hugely impressive again as all three heat-leaders piled up the points.

The remaining members of the side also impressed, with Matt Williamson finishing strongly after a tough start whilst Nathan Greaves continued his excellent form with a composed display.

Down at reserve, Tom Perry won his first and last rides in fine style whilst youngster Danny Phillips put in a gutsy performance to bag a superb paid eight.

The home side accounted for all 15 race winners and will be hoping for more of the same when they host Scunthorpe and Mildenhall in a double-header next week.
