HALESOWEN's Helen Scott savoured golden joy at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon.
England's Sophie Thornhill and her pilot Scott won the first Para-sport gold of Glasgow 2014 with victory in the tandem sprint event for blind and visually-impaired athletes.
The pair dominated the event and beat Scotland's Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston 2-0 in the best-of-three final.
"We went out to win and rode the best race we could, thankfully that was good enough for gold,” said Thornhill.
Scott added: "It is a real honour to race against a legend like Aileen with so many Olympic and world medals, if I can do half as well as she has in my career then I will be happy."
Scott, a member of Halesowen CC, had won silver with McGlynn at the London Paralympics in 2012.
